Tan Wei Han's Profile
Born and raised in Penang, Wei Han graduated with a Diploma in Music at the Malaysian Institute of Art in 2002. He was awarded First Prize at the Classical Singing National Competition organized by the Penang State Symphony Chorus in 2001. In following year, the Japan Music Council presented him with the Best Promising Singer Award at the Nissin International Competition held in Tokyo.
Wei Han furthered his undergraduate studies at Xi’an Conservatory of Music, China in 2004 under the tutelage of Asst. Prof. Chen Yong. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance.
In 2006, Wei Han performed Cosi fan Tutte’s lead role, Ferrando at Mozart’s 250th Anniversary concert. Wei Han took on another lead role in 2007, when he performed in “Butterfly Lovers” with the Dama Orchestra during their musical tour to Perth, Australia. In that same year, he also sang Schumann’s song-cycle “Dichterliebe” in the German Art Song Series 2007, presented by Artists Platform and Goethe Institute Malaysia at KLPac.
Wei Han was a member of World Youth Choir in 2006 and 2007 organized by UNESCO. He toured Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland and Belgium in 2006 and South Africa and Namibia in 2007 with the Choir.
In 2008, Wei Han was attached to an opera company in Australia, Co-Opera for 6 months, touring in numerous cities Down Under. He performed Verdi’s opera La Traviata’s taking the lead role, Alfredo in 40 performances.
In April 2010, he performed Mozart’s opera “The Marriage of Figaro” and sang Basilio’s role in Tunghai University, Taiwan. He is currently under the guidance of renowned soprano Dr. Yi-Lin Hsu whilst undertaking his master’s degree in vocal performance.
